Symbol markers usually have one image that represents the marker's normal appearance and one image that represents the marker's selected appearance. This makes the marker interactive because the appearance changes as you mouse onto and off of the it.
Custom symbol markers
You can upload your own symbol images and use them to create your own custom markers. This lets you use custom markers to represent different kinds of locations such as restaurants, lodging, attractions, or sales offices. Other ideas for custom symbols include using logos or buttons that let you click to go to another web page.

Example — Move your mouse over the symbol markers above. The markers on the left were created with symbols that come with MapsAlive. The markers on the right were created using custom symbols.
